Columbus Community Playgroup Co-operative Inc. is currently not enrolled in the Canada Wide Early Learning for Child Care program. (CWELCC) What does this mean for members of the Playgroup?
1. It means that our educators are proud to continue to offer the same great programs with creativity, passion and autonomy. Our programs feature high quality social opportunities, exceptional learning and care.
2. It means we are able to continue to serve our community with the highest level of quality care to all.
3. Our fees are already lower than the $22/day threshold established by the Ministry* for children attending either 4 or 5 days per week, falling within a range of $20.45- $21.67 per day. Children attending 2 or 3 days per week will pay slightly higher. *(re: fees as directed to CWELCC enrolled centres).
4. As a non-profit organization, all fees are directed toward the operation of the centre, including materials and equipment, all for the benefit of the children and their families,
5. Columbus Playgroup continues to welcome all members of the community to our thriving multi-cultural classroom where every child is valued, cared for and raised up to their best selves... at home away from home.
BE SURE TO LOOK THROUGH OUR PHOTOS BELOW AND IN OUR GALLERY TO SEE THE WIDE VARIETY OF EXPERIENCES AND FUN HAPPENINGS AT COLUMBUS.
Look for the 4 Foundational Conditions a high-qulality child care aspires to achieve as described in
"How Does Learning Happen?".
You will see indications of Expression, Engagement, Belonging and Well-Being and so much more.

TAKE A PEEK INTO A DAY AT COLUMBUS PLAYGROUP
PlaytimeEach morning begins with free-choice playtime. Children choose from a wide variety of toys and play opportunities, which are frequently changed to encourage engagement and expression and a variety of learning opportunities. CCPC teachers meet or exceed all regulated standards of practice in Early Learning. Various art materials are always available for free choice activities. Teachers offer planned art and craft experiences each day. Teachers value this time to interact with children and to help facilitate a full range of social skills.
|
Snack TimeThe community of Columbus Playgroup sit together and enjoy well-supervised, nutritious snacks, that build friendships and healthy bodies. Our snacks exceed Health and Ministry guidelines, including 3 elements of Canada's Food Guide. Snack components include a fruit or vegetable, a dairy and a carbohydrate. Water is always available and accessible to the children while in our care. As a co-operative, parents provide snacks according to a fair rotation of scheduled menus and alternatives.
CCPC is a nut-free environment. CCPC posts restrictions on any food to which a child in care has an anaphylactic allergy, and honours the needs of any other food restriction or avoidance as requested by parents. |
Learning togetherChildren learn together with hands-on experiences, designed by experienced RECEs and inspired by the children's
natural curiosity and inquiries. Teachers at Columbus Playgroup believe strongly in building core knowledge and skills, such as learning letters, sounds, counting, number recognition, love of reading, shapes, colours, early printing, and much more. Teachers and children learn together at Columbus Playgroup exploring themes and individual interests through planned and spontaneous activities. |
Story TimeColumbus Playgroup seeks to encourage pre-reading skills and a life-long love of reading and learning. The children love being read to, and having quiet reading time daily. The playgroup and the teachers collectively have a huge library of story and reference books for young children. It is a joy to use books with the children - to fall into a great story, revel in the illustrations, introduce new topics, extend the learning, research and discover new things, and just peruse the pictures. Afternoon class children will begin reading simple books, retelling stories, making and illustrating simple books and identifying environmental print.
|
Gym TimeOne of our great assets at Columbus Playgroup is the fabulous full-size gym with an abundance of toys for building large muscle skills and having fun with peers.
The gym is especially valued during the winter when weather and ground conditions can interfere with outdoor activities. Gym time is provided every day, morning and afternoon and is one of the children's most favourite parts of the day. |
Special EventsThe families at Columbus Playgroup are encouraged to participate and share in the fun. Several Special Events and trips are planned for the children and their families throughout the year. Farm and zoo trips,
Grandparents' Teas, Christmas Parties and the Annual Country Fair are just a few of these. Great memories are made at CCPC. MORE LEARNING ! |
